♥ the cat is, above all things, a dramatist.

last night i started packing for our honeymoon,
(we are off to barbados the day after the wedding!)
and talula decided that she would like to
come too. you can pack a cat in
 your luggage, right?

♥ grow old with me. the best is yet to be.

tonight, nicolas and i watched herb & dorothy (2008),
a delightful documentary about an unlikely pair of art collectors
who spent their entire married lives befriending little known artists
and amassing the most impressive collection of minimal &
conceptual art on a very modest income- which they later
donated the entirety of to the national gallery of
 art in new york.

how wonderful it is to think that there is someone else out there
who is equally interested in the same strange hobbies as you-
i thank my lucky stars every morning i wake
up with nick in a book-pile of our own
making. now that's what i call
soul mates.

♥ for your entertainment.

♥ one's not half of two- two halves are one.

via.

i am hoping that our wedding day is as light-hearted
color-splashed and day-dreamy as
marc chagall painting.

(music-playing animals welcome.)

♥ the tie that binds.

source.

want to find the quickest way to get your blood boiling?
try tying a bow tie. on yourself or around the neck of
your future groom, without wanting to strangle
someone out of pure frustration.

after what seems like hours of watching and re-watching
this how-to video, nick and i are still not convinced that we could do
this alone. it's awkward, impossible, and makes us both feel as if we
are very lacking in hand-eye coordination skills.

if nick's wedding bowtie weren't so darn cute-
and didn't match so well to our wedding invitations,
i would totally exchange for a clip-on.

ps. nick's bow tie came from forage, and if you weren't aware-
they now make lady bows as well, (which is a perfect incentive to
hurry up and learn how to tie a damn bow!)

♥ "if i get married, i want to be very married." ~audrey hepburn

via kate spade.
in just one week, i am going to say "i do" to
my very best friend, my highschool sweetheart,
and the love of my life. i can't wait.

♥ shadows & light.

via asian models

it's been a long time since i have posted a fashion editorial,
so when i saw this feature from the september issue of
numero china magazine, i knew i had to share it.
it totally reminds me of scenes from the film,
in the mood for love (2000),
 (read my review here.)

♥ memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.

on her website, dress, memory australian writer & book editor lorelei vashti
has challenged herself & photographer friend, lee sandwith to capture a
moment & re-capitulate a memory of a time when she wore a
favorite article of clothing from her seemingly
boundless wardrobe, every friday for
the next 6 months.

not only do i love the dresses, (most of which are vintage),
but i also love the stories that accompany each of them- for it is
lorelei's words that give her clothing dimension and shape
and her memories which give them life and meaning.

♥ just to be is a blessing. just to live is holy.

"sometimes while i ride the subway i try to look at each person and imagine what they look like to someone who is totally in love with them. i think everyone has had someone look at them that way, whether it was a lover, or a parent, or a friend, whether they knew it or not. it's a wonderful thing, to look at someone to whom you would never be attracted and think about what looking at them feels like to someone who is devouring every part of their image, who has invisible strings that are connected to this person tied to to every part of their body. i think this fun pastime is a way of cultivating compassion. it feels good to think about people that way, and to use that part of my mind that i think is traditionally reserved for a tiny portion of people i'll meet in my life to appreciate the general public." ~ dean spade

when i read this quote last week on my favorite tumblr, bearbear,
it immediately reminded me of a little daily activity that i used to practice
while riding the train to work in the morning.

i must first admit to you that i am not a deeply religious person and have yet
to explore all of the beautiful nuances that the spiritual side of life holds-
but i do believe in being a good human being and one of the most wonderful
ways to exercise that truth is to go out and bless everyone around you.

pick a stranger and envision them walking in the brightest of loving lights,
infuse them with hopes and blessings that they will know what it is like to be loved
wholly and unconditionally, and then let them go on their way.
spread the seed of love, and see what blooms.

♥ being a nerd pays off sometimes.

nick has a favorite shirt that he got at a thrift store ages ago.
it is a faded blue in color and has an encyclopedia drawing of two otters
in their natural habitat. and while it absolutely reminds me of something
out of the closet of napoleon dynamite-- it is often the first thing
he reaches for when he wants to feel most like himself,
and for that reason, i love it.

given this peek into my pre-marital closet, you can imagine how overjoyed
i was to stumble upon the tumblr, nerd boyfriend, which perfectly
features celebrity nerds and replicates their sartorial choices to a t.
