♥ when you are old and grey and full of sleep,

and nodding by the fire, take down this book,
and slowly read, and dream of the soft look,
your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

how many loved your moments of glad grace,
and loved your beauty with love false or true,
but one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
and loved the sorrows of your changing face.

and bending down behind the glowing bars,
murmur, a little sadly how love fled,
and paced upon the mountains overhead
and hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
wb yeats.

i tend to see things in black and white.
i am either hot, or i'm cold,
i either get an A on a test or i totally bomb and get a C.
i either care or i don't at all.
(you get the point!)
so, i must admit, i often overlook what is hidden within
the shades of grey.
until now.

as of late, i have become ob.sessed. with gray nail polish.
it seems like everywhere i look someone is wearing it,
everyone but me, that is!

the color specifically is opi's
you don't know jacques from the paris 2008 collection
(have i been under a rock? nope. rocks are grey.)

anyway, if you are like me,
and you haven't gotten on the grey train yet,
make sure you do so immediately for fall.

notice how my nails coordinate with my kitty, talula, now?
once again, inspiration in the form of a cat.

although going grey is considered a no.no
in a society that champions youth above all else,
two women who have never forgotten their roots
are marie seznec (above),
who went prematurely grey at the age of 15,
and whose striking looks juxtaposed with her hair,
made her the muse of christian lacroix in the 1980's
and later his still stylish director of haute couture.

and stacy london from what not to wear
who earned her grey stripe
at the age of 12!
if i could have anyone's job, it would be hers.
only i like to think i would do it better : )

it looks like grey is cropping up everywhere these days.
i especially adore the soft dove greys,
which look so gorgeous with red lipstick.

another variation of grey is the tweedy look,
which just screams "back to school" to me,
even though that's not where i am going.

even in the summer heat,
i wouldn't mind snuggling up in a big grey cardigan
and taking a cat nap.

here are some more looks from
mr. inspiration himself:

grey can come in all shapes and sizes.
and just like everything in black and white:
it demands notice.
